On Queries of SQL Type For Databases

ABSTRACT

We consider a query expressed in natural language for a database
containing many tables. We study the problem of the transformation
of a query into a SQL-ORACLE command. An intermediate language
is defined, where its individual variables are the attributes
of input tables and its predicate variables are the input tables.
We also define the expressions of the intermediate language,
for which the syntax and semantics are specified. The way to
transform a query expressed in natural language into an intermediate
language expression is given. The translation of an expression
in intermediate language into a SELECT command is achieved by
a recursive transformation. The cases for which the query in
natural language involves aggregation functions are also analyzed.

databases and programming logic.
Currently, prof. Felea is teaching databases (I, II), 
oriented object databases (for students) and 
concurrency control for database systems (doctoral studies).
Prof. Felea organizes the "database" research group in 
Computer Science Faculty.
Prof. Felea has recently participated at the Congress ARA-Chisinau
2005 and at the Balkan Conference in Informatics-2005 (BCI-2005),
Ohrid, Macedonia.
