Textual Entailment (Teza de Doctorat, coordonator: prof.dr. Dan Cristea) ----------------------------------- ABSTRACT ----------------------------------- The recognition of textual entailment is one of the recent challenges of the Natural Language Processing (NLP) domain and one of the most demanding. The RTE Challenge starts in 2005 and it is an attempt to promote an abstract generic task that captures major semantic inference needs across applications. The task requires recognising, given two text fragments, whether the meaning of one text can be inferred (entailed) from another text. The presentation of the Textual Entailment system used by author in competitions from 2007 and 2008 makes the main content of the thesis. One of the main objective of the thesis is to demonstrate the utility of the Textual Entailment system in two important tracks from QA@CLEF challenge: Question Answering and Answer Validation Exercise, for the English and Romanian languages.
